DEN-L has been working with CSOs across the five Spotlight counties (Montserrado, Grand Cape Mount, Lofa, Nimba and Grand Gedeh) in the fight to eliminate all forms of Violence Against Women and Girls (VGWG) and Harmful Practices (HPs). In this regard, several activities have been ongoing including, but not limited to, CSOs mapping, CSOs capacity needs assessment, training and multi-stakeholders dialogue. At the end of the training in the counties, CSOs elected and endorsed a GBV secretariat in each of the five counties to oversee and coordinate the CSOs activities in the campaign to end this violence. Each secretariat has five to six organizations that work as team to coordinate CSOs affairs and to provide regular update on GBV issues from the counties.
This event (the conference) brings together five persons selected from each county (Chair of Secretariat, Secretary of Secretariat, one marginalized group representative on the Secretariat, County Gender Coordinator, and a representative from any one women led organization from the county); twenty-five (25) persons in total are therefore invited to participate from the five counties plus additional five other stakeholders selected from UN Women and GOL.
The conference will focus experience sharing on key achievements, key challenges, lessons learned, and recommendations from CSOs in relation to this campaign since the structure was put in place.
Other participants from UN will participate virtually through zoom during the formal opening ceremony beginning at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow June 25, 2020.
